Margaret Humphreys CBE
Founder and Director of the Child Migrants Trust
Margaret Humphreys founded the Child Migrants Trust in Nottingham in 1987. Over the past 25 years, Margaret has campaigned for government recognition of the needs of Britain’s child migrant community. She wrote a bestselling book Empty Cradles in 1994 when the UK government stopped funding the Trust and helped to secure parliamentary inquiries in the UK and Australia, followed by public apologies and better funding for vital services. Margaret’s work has been honoured in both Britain and Australia. Empty Cradles was filmed in 2011 as Oranges and Sunshine with Emily Watson in the leading role.
